Decades ’09 Challenge

This and the support your library challenge will be the first challenges I’m participating in. That will probably be it since as is there are already so many books I want to read. I mainly decided on this one because there are so many classics I keep meaning to read but never do.

Decades ‘09 Rules:

1. Read a minimum of 9 books in 9 consecutive decades in ‘09.

2. Books published in the 2000’s do not count.

3. Titles may be cross-posted with any other challenge.

4. You may change your list at any time.

Not sure what I am going to read yet but here are some possibilities:

1816: Emma by Jane Austen

1826: The Last Man by Mary Shelley

1834: The Last Days of Pompei

1843: Martin Chuzzlewit by Charles Dickens or 1847: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë or 1848: Vanity Fair by Thackeray (apparently the 1840s was a good decade)

1850: The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne or 1856: Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert

1864: Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne

1877: Black Beauty by Anna Sewell

1880: Heidi by Johanna Spyri

1891: Tess of the d’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy

Support Your Library Challenge 2009

So I’m relatively new to blogging and have gotten hooked on reading book blogs lately. I found this Library Challenge 2009 on J. Kaye’s blog. It’s called Support Your Local Library Reading Challenge. She is a big supporter of her local library and what better way to encourage others to use their library than to have a challenge such as this.

The rules are simple. Just read books checked out from your local library. They can be any kind of books including audio, downloads, children’s, and YA. The challenge runs from 1/1/09 to 12/31/09.

There are three levels of challenges:

1. Read 12 books from your local library.

2. Read 25 books from your local library.

3. Read 50 books from your local library.

The only stipulation is that they HAVE to be read in 2009 (no starting early LOL). You can join anytime. The other thing is that you have to choose which level you are going to complete when you join.
